We can now offer the latest laser treatment for inflammatory acne. Whilst this is not a "cure" for the condition, it can provide a rapid reduction in the number of active acne spots, with improvement lasting up to 3 months. It is a non-invasive and safe treatment, reducing thWithout a doubt, the biggest break through for many years in the treatment of live acne is the N'Lite laser. This laser was introduced as a collagen building laser, designed for erasing lines and wrinkles and treating general signs of skin ageing. Treating acne with the N'Lite laser

Without a doubt, the biggest break through for many years in the treatment of live acne is the N'Lite laser. This laser was introduced as a collagen building laser, designed for erasing lines and wrinkles and treating general signs of skin ageing. However, it rapidly became apparent to laser users that it was also possible to achieve very good results on pitted acne scarring, as well as lines and wrinkles.

During the course of treating clients with a mixture of pitted scarring, from old breakouts, as well as fresh problem areas, it became obvious that active breakouts settled very rapidly indeed following the laser treatment. Within a short time, we had a number of clients who were actually controlling their acne by using laser treatment, in conjunction with the correct non-laser treatment regimes.

Since this time, there has been a full clinical trial carried out on the use of this laser for live acne, the results of which are due to be published shortly. The trial showed that, over a twelve week period, the number of active lesions dropped dramatically, even after only one laser treatment.

The way in which the laser works is twofold:

Firstly, the laser light kills the acne bacteria that cause the infection and which leads to the formation of spots. Because the whole face is usually treated, the bacteria are killed over a wide area, reducing breakouts and stopping the infection spreading.

Secondly, the formation of large amounts of new collagen below and around the spots gives a huge boost to the healing process, causing the spots to disappear with a decreased likelihood of acne scars developing.

The treatment is painless and the potential side effects are minimal and very short lived. Certainly, in comparison to the use of Roaccutane and long term Antibiotics, this is a treatment solution which is very well tolerated and far superior to any other acne treatment that we know of.

Information on Treatments for Acne

It is commonly believed that, in order to get the better of spots and acne breakouts, it is necessary to use strong, alcohol laden products to dry the skin out. Unfortunately, these same products can often make the situation progressively worse by stripping the skin of its natural oils and encouraging the sebum glands to work even harder to replace it. This, increased production of sebum provides the perfect environment for further bacterial growth.

At The Bournemouth Laser Clinic, we believe in a gentler approach using a variety of treatment creams and lotions, non-laser treatments and our N'Lite laser.

Our products consist mainly of Vitamin A based creams and gels, to reduce sebum production. We also have excellent Vitamin C based products to deal with the excess pigment production that occurs following breakouts in people with darker skin.

We sometimes use our microdermabrasion system to gently exfoliate the skin surface.

We begin with a consultation during which we look at the current skin management regime, including all the products that the client is using. Whilst some products may be good for continued use, it is not unusual to discover that some products are not appropriate, or could be replaced with something much milder and more "skin-friendly".

The client's full medical history is taken and an examination of the skin carried out, to assess the current situation. If the client has a particularly sensitive skin, we may try some products on the skin at this stage, to test for skin reaction, whilst we complete the consultation process.

We then inform the client about the products and treatments which would be of benefit. These might be a mixture of a home care regime and in-clinic procedures, such as microdermabrasion or the N'lite laser. The treatment regime is always individualised for each client; what is perfect for one client with acne might be unsuitable for another.

Full costing for all products, non-laser and laser treatments are explained during the consultation and the client is under no pressure to make any decisions at the time; we always encourage people to go away and consider the information before embarking on any course of treatment.
